Duties / Expectations:

Work schedule: Monday through Friday normal business hours including remote-based and off-site; some office hours; some non-business hours as needed (e.g., after-hours events typ. 2 hrs.).
Position Expectations: The Executive Director reports to the Society’s Board of Trustees and works closely with the President and Vice-President and will be responsible for the overall administration of the organization, (including reviewing the work of administrative employees), playing a key role in programming, education, outreach, fundraising, recreation, membership and grants. The Executive Director will also be responsible for the following focus areas:
-Develop and oversee a fundraising plan which supports and cultivates donors, and which ensures the organization’s fiscal strength.
-Expand and strengthen our volunteer organization to further serve our mission and its myriads of projects and work.
-Develop a communications strategy that builds CSNJ’s reputation.
-Promote and enhance the organization’s public profile by strengthening relationships with all stakeholders who can help advance the mission and work of the organization.
-Serve as liaison to our partner organizations.
-Coordinate events and negotiate contracts.
-Direct and oversee board member position requirements.
-Exhibit inspirational leadership for the organization’s personnel and effectively manage the organization’s financial condition and operations using sound and transparent practices.
-Effectively collaborate with Board of Trustees to coordinate the annual budget, provide good stewardship of its resources, adhere to its policies, maintain its mission and values and meet the organization’s strategic goals.
Additional qualifications: Experience engaging with and motivating Board Trustees; strong interpersonal skills; proven fundraising skills, including gifts and grants; experience with strategic planning; fluency in standard office and communications packages; exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to engage stakeholders and build relationships; commitment to support equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Work environment: The Executive Director will work at various locations as needed, including remote-based and at Waterloo Village, when not in the field engaging with partners and stakeholders. The Society’s headquarters is in Parsippany, NJ with modern office and meeting space and is adjacent to the archives.
