Proven ability to set and articulate a fundraising strategy, build and execute a development plan, and utilize a metrics driven approach to evaluate outcomes. Philanthropy is the primary driver for long-term sustainable growth and impact advancing USA Triathlon’s and the Foundation’s three pillars: 1) Encourage youth participation 2) Inspire pathways to access and inclusion, and 3) Ignite Olympic and Paralympic dreams. The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of triathlon and multisport in the United States by driving the USA Triathlon Foundation’s philanthropic vision and securing the resources necessary to support the mission of USA Triathlon. The CDO will be at the forefront of leading efforts to achieve ambitious fundraising goals while building and nurturing meaningful, long-lasting relationships with donors to create a legacy of support and transformation for generations to come. The CDO is a visionary, experienced and strategic hands-on fundraiser responsible for leading exponential philanthropic growth and overseeing all development activities. This role is instrumental in securing funding from individuals, corporations and foundations that will fundamentally impact USA Triathlon’s vision of bringing multisport to more places, people and possibilities. The successful candidate will be passionate about USA Triathlon’s mission to grow and serve the sport in the United States, and in cultivating and growing mission driven philanthropy. As a member of the Executive leadership team, reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Foundation Board of Trustees, the CDO will serve as the primary development officer. The CDO will lead a team to support operations and the annual fund efforts, as well as oversee Corporate Partnerships. The Chief Development Officer will be a key organizational leader, skilled and proven in working cross-functionally across the organization. Essential Job Functions Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy to drive major gifts, legacy giving, annual giving, endowment growth, and capital campaign success Generate Foundation revenue both through retention and upgrading of current donors and the acquisition of new donors with a strong focus on major gifts and building new sources of unrestricted funding. Lead donor identification, discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship efforts to expand and deepen donor relationships. Oversee fundraising initiatives to achieve the organization’s annual goal and successfully create and launch a comprehensive campaign as we prepare for the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics in Los Angeles, CA. Cultivate and secure major gifts and corporate giving, leveraging relationships with donors and foundations and demonstrate strong skills in maintaining relationships with individual donors Serve as a public ambassador, fostering strong relationships with key community leaders, businesses, and philanthropic organizations. Work closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, leadership team and fundraising committees to advance philanthropic initiatives. Develop and manage Foundation budgets, forecasting, financial reporting. Manage, motivate and support staff and volunteers in best practices for fundraising and donor relations. Foster and lead a culture of philanthropy across the organization, leveraging USA Triathlon staff expertise and connections Ensure accurate donor data management, timely acknowledgments, and effective recordkeeping. Provide clear metrics and reporting on fundraising progress, impact, and opportunities. Curate strategic donor engagement opportunities, including special events like camps and awards celebrations, Oversee all foundation and corporate partnerships operations, ensuring the highest level of compliance and efficiency Manage a growing annual fund including, but not limited to, develop, and lead short and long-term plans for growth strategies and tactics, and enhance and implement consistent donor benefits and cultivation activities. Develop and manage comprehensive multi-year and annual fundraising campaigns, including all marketing strategies Partner with the Marketing and Communications team to align marketing, communications, and donor engagement strategies with organizational values and goals.
