Required Experience:

Master’s degree in Education of Students with Visual Impairments, Special Education, or a related field.
Preferred certifications and licensures: Orientation and Mobility (O&M), Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI).
Extensive experience teaching students ages 3–21 with visual impairments or in special education settings.
Proven leadership in managing educational services, staff performance, mentoring, staff development and program operations. Budget forecasting and management a plus.
Deep knowledge of assistive technology, specialized curriculum, IEP process, disability rights, current trends and best practices.
Outstanding communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Each year, the Carroll Center for the Blind helps nearly 1,300 blind or visually impaired children, adults and senior citizens gain the skills they need to live active and fulfilling lives. Our Newton campus houses our rehabilitation program, computer training classes, low vision store, and administrative offices. A large portion of our programs are services conducted in public schools, students’ homes, and their communities.

The Carroll Center for the Blind is seeking a visionary, driven Director of Education Services to lead a dynamic department delivering life-changing educational and orientation/mobility services across public and private schools. Reporting to the Chief Program Officer, this high-impact leadership role offers the opportunity to manage a talented team of educators, direct innovative programming, and ensure students with vision loss receive the expert support they deserve—from early childhood through young adulthood. What You’ll Do:

Strategic Leadership & Operational Excellence

Set the vision and strategy for specialized itinerant education and orientation & mobility services for students who are blind or visually impaired.
Oversee program development, staffing, performance Management, budgeting, compliance, and service delivery with a focus on excellence and equity.
Ensure compliance with IEP timelines and service standard.
Drive departmental growth to expand services and reach more students in need.
Lead data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement initiatives.
Contribute to signature student programs like the Braille Challenge and Cane Quest, as needed.
Team Management & Professional Development

Recruit, mentor, and inspire a dedicated team of educators and mobility instructors.
Monitor caseloads and staff assignments, ensuring alignment with student needs and staff strengths.
Promote a collaborative, inclusive culture that supports learning and professional growth.
Outreach & Higher Education Engagement

Act as the lead liaison to school districts, families, and external agencies—building trust, solving problems, and advocating for exceptional student outcomes.
Represent the Carroll Center at conferences, outreach events, and community forums.
Cultivate partnerships with universities, practicum programs, and educational leaders to strengthen the pipeline of future professionals.
