Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field required
3–5+ years of experience in fundraising, sales, or relationship management (higher education experience preferred)
Previous experience in non-profit or higher education fundraising
Demonstrated success in cultivating and soliciting major gifts or comparable relationship-based outcomes
Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
Strong sense of urgency and driven to meet goals
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Willingness to travel and work occasional evenings/weekends as needed
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment

Full job description
The Director of Development is a key member of the Office of Institutional Advancement and is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding philanthropic support for Midland University. This role manages a portfolio of major gift prospects, leads annual giving initiatives, and supports comprehensive fundraising and capital campaign efforts. The Director plays a critical role in advancing the University’s mission by building meaningful relationships with alumni, donors, and friends of Midland.

Primary Responsibilities

Major Gifts & Donor Pipeline Management

Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects and donors, developing and executing individualized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies
Actively move alumni and donors through the giving pipeline, from identification and qualification to solicitation and stewardship
Identify, cultivate, and solicit planned giving opportunities, working with donors to align their legacy intentions with Midland’s long-term priorities
Conduct regular outreach, including in-person visits, virtual meetings, and written communications
Annual Giving & Campaign Leadership

Direct annual giving strategies, including Midland’s Giving Day and other targeted appeals, in partnership with Annual Giving Officer
Collaborate with the Vice President for Institutional Advancement on the planning and execution of comprehensive and capital campaigns
Assist in setting fundraising goals and tracking progress toward institutional priorities
Donor Stewardship & Engagement

Oversee donor stewardship processes to ensure timely, meaningful recognition and engagement
Plan and execute stewardship events, including the annual Scholarship Luncheon and other donor-focused gatherings
Manage giving society structures, benefits, and communications to strengthen donor retention and loyalty
Collaboration & Strategy

Work closely with Advancement colleagues, alumni relations, marketing, and academic leadership to align fundraising efforts with institutional priorities
Utilize CRM systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge) to track donor activity, manage portfolios, and report outcomes
Contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement of advancement initiatives
Travel & Representation

Represent Midland University at events and meetings locally, regionally, and nationally
Travel as needed to cultivate and solicit donors and strengthen alumni engagement
